The Service

BGAN is a wireless packet data service, based on the Internet Protocol (IP), which offers mobile, high-speed access to the Internet and corporate networks via a small, lightweight portable Satellite IP Modem.The service also allows for voice calls to be made to any destination.

Regional BGAN is more than twice as fast as current terrestrial General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) services. It is based on Internet Protocol (IP) packet technology, so users only pay for the amount of data they send and receive, and not for the amount of time spent online. This enables users to stay ‘always connected’.

In addition, the robust Satellite IP Modem and the resilience of the BGAN network are designed to provide high quality and reliable connections anywhere the service is available.

Inmarsat BGAN Satellite Solution

Carrying another piece of equipment is the last thing you need whether traveling for work or leisure, which is why BGAN has been designed for people who need to travel light.

This IP Satellite Modem is a true plug and play solution which works with either your laptop PC or PDA via USB, Bluetooth or Ethernet interfaces. The set up process is automated so all you have to do is connect your PC via your chosen port, point in the direction of the satellite and log on; you are then free to work as if you were sitting in your office.

BGAN uses the Inmarsat I4 Satellite network which covers Europe, Africa, The Middle East and Asia. In March 2006, coverage will be extended to include the Americas .
