Altobridge GSM at Sea or on Land

Wireless Communications on Land, Large Yachts, Cruise Ships and Merchant Vessels

A new service from Altobridge allows owners, guests and crew aboard large yachts, cruise ships and merchant vessels to make and receive voice calls, send and receive SMS and email messages and browse the Internet using their own cell phones, Blackberry's, or other wireless enabled PDA's,  anywhere on the world's oceans.

The Altobridge technology enables cellular coverage on yachts, cruise ships and commercial vessels at sea, at affordable rates. The cellular network on the vessel acts in the same way as a land based cellular network, e.g.. charges for the voice, SMS and GPRS communication appears on the users own cell phone bill.

The on board cellular network connects back to the land based cellular network via the vessel's existing satellite system, whatever the satellite bearer (VSAT, Inmarsat, Iridium, Globalstar etc.)

Increasingly, mobile extensions are needed in land mass areas not covered by GSM technology, but that are covered by satellite connectivity. The Altobridge portable service allows GSM phone, SMS and GPRS coverage to be operated within the vicinity of a remote area served by any satellite service.

As with the sea based service, all calls are charged to the users own cell phone.
